Good gods

are everyday getting

few and far between

                                       pull yourself up

                                      by the bootstraps young man.

walk to the Savers store

with gold coins

in my palms,

annoint the broken vases

crooked tables

cracked paintings

which people will

buy or barter for and

bring to their own

churches, their own piece of land.

spread this off-brand salvation

as my last ditch hope for a not quite nation.

open my arms.
